Deck Maintenance and Restoration

01Brief

Client Objective

Make the deck safe and rebuild it properly rather than laying new boards over a frame that had already failed.

Construction Approach

Once the boards came up, the frame was found rotted through with a wiring run sitting exposed in the debris. The structure was stripped out completely, the electrical run was dealt with, and a new treated frame was built and wrapped before the composite boards were laid.

Scope of Work

  • Removal of the failed deck surface and frame
  • Making safe the exposed electrical run
  • New treated timber framing
  • Protective membrane to the framing
  • Composite decking laid, cut and fixed
  • Edge trim and finishing to the pool surround

Materials Used

  • Treated structural timber
  • Composite decking boards
  • Joist protection membrane

02Problem and Response

The Challenge

The original frame had failed to the point where it was no longer safe, and there was live wiring running through the failed section.

The Solution

The whole substructure was replaced rather than patched, and the electrical run was made safe before any new framing went in.
