Outdoor Stone Bar

A wrap around outdoor bar with a heavy natural stone top, stacked stone base cladding and a timber back bar with integrated shelving and bottle storage, set under a finished timber ceiling.

Client Objective

Build a bar that works as a full service station for staff while reading as a feature piece from the deck and the beach side.

Construction Approach

The counter was set out around the service equipment first so the bartender side actually works, then the stone was templated to the finished carcass. The top was cut with a thick mitred edge to give the slab visual weight, and the base was clad in stacked stone to tie the bar to the surrounding architecture.

02Problem and Response

The Challenge

An open air bar sits in full view from every side, so there is no back that can be left rough, and the stone has to line up on a wrapping form.

The Solution

The slab was laid out as a single run before cutting so the veining carries around the wrap, and every visible face was finished to the same standard.
